Annual or perennial herbs, without stinging hairs. Stipules fused, intrapetiolar. Leaves distichous, asymmetrical. Inflorescences of unisexual sessile capitula with a disk-shaped receptacle surrounded by involucral bracts. Male flowers 4-5-merous. Worldwide: c. 300 species in the tropical Old World, extending to New Zealand Tanzania: 1 taxon. |
