Description:
Twining perennial herb with slender thinly pubescent stems, often becoming hairless. Leaves narrowly to broadly oblong up to 6 cm long, mucronate at the apex, thinly pubescent, particularly at the margins and on the veins below but often becoming hairless; petiole up 10 mm long. Flowers usually solitary on a peduncle up to 3ยท5 cm long and a pedicel up to 6 mm long. Sepals ovate up to 15 mm long, acute, enlarging in fruit up to 23 mm. Corolla white, about 2 cm long. Capsule elongate-ovoid, hairless.

Notes: The species is considered of pantropical origin in Flora Zambesiaca but other sources claim it is only native in tropical America while introduced in Africa Asia and Australia. Since there appear to be specimens from Sierra Leone as well as Java that predate even the formal description based on a type from the West Indies one could almost believe its pantropical origins.
